Eramuslim – Kamis 28 April 2016, Presiden Palestina Mahmoud Abbas baru saja meresmikan patung tokoh revolusi dunia asal Afrika Selatan, Nelson Mandela, di pusat kota Ramallah Tepi Barat, sebagai momen peringatan bagi bangsa Palestina untuk bebas dari penjajahan Zionis Israel.

Memiliki bobot sekitar 2 ton dan tinggi 6 meter, patung perunggu Mandela merupakan pemberian hadiah dari pemerintah kota Johannesburg kepada warga Palestina sebagai tugu peringatan perjuangan Mandela dalam menghadapi politik Apartheid.

Wali kota Ramallah Musa Hadeed dalam keterangannya mengatakan, “Patung ini adalah pesan kepada penjajah dan penindas bangsa Palestina, yaitu Israel, bahwa kami semakin dekat dengan kemerdekaan daripada yang kalian sangka.”

Musa Hadeed menambahkan, “Patung ini mengingatkan kita pada pribadi Nelson Mandela, yang berdiri bersama rakyat Palestina pada masa-masa paling sulit dalam hidupnya, bahkan ketika dia masuk di dalam penjara. Mandela memiliki hubungan kuat dengan perjuangan kebebasan bangsa Palestina.” (Skynewsarabia/Ram)
